Learning from the GrowGreen cities: Urban Nature-based solutions projects and strategies

Urban nature-based solutions have proved to generate multiple benefits, to the environment, the economy and to society, while increasing the harmony between people and nature.

In order to contribute to the evidence-base of nature-based solutions (NBS) in cities and increase the understanding of their multiple benefits, GrowGreen is organising two webinars which will shed light on the challenges and opportunities encountered by the GrowGreen cities in the development of NBS projects and strategies. The objective of both webinars will be to guide and encourage the deployment of NBS in other cities and regions.

The first webinar “Nature-based solutions implementation – Learning from the GrowGreen cities” will take place on October 26th, 3pm – 5pm CET.  In this occasion, GrowGreen will showcase the experience of Manchester, Valencia and Wroclaw in implementing their NBS demonstration projects.

Furthermore, the city of Campinas, Brazil will provide some insights and best practices on nature-based solutions, to foster further communication and learning beyond the GrowGreen project.

The cities’ presentation will be followed by a panel discussion moderated by IUCN. In particular, the following questions will be addressed:

  • What are the drivers behind the cities’ decisions to implement NBS projects?
  • What are the expected outcomes and benefits?
  • What has been achieved and the lessons learnt, including success stories and challenges encountered?

The registration form and agenda for this webinar are available here.

The second webinar “Nature-based-solutions strategies in GrowGreen cities” will be held on November 24th, 11am – 1pm CET. The cities of Zadar, Brest and Modena will present their experience in the development of NBS strategies.

In addition, Tecnalia will give an overview on the use of the Green Cities Framework, an instrument to help cities in developing a successful strategy for Nature-Based Solutions, ensuring the final outcome is grounded in evidence, co-developed with stakeholders and easy to put into practice.

A panel discussion moderated by IUCN will follow the cities’ presentations. During the webinar the following questions will be addressed:

  • What are the drivers behind the cities’ decisions to develop NBS strategies?
  • What is the strategy development process and the expected achievement?
  • What are the lessons learnt, including success stories and challenges encountered?
